WinCross creates backup files—in the form of temporary (*.tmp) files—as you enter job file specifications. The *.tmp files are written to the Windows temporary folder (typically C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Temp\WinCross or C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp\WinCross depending on your operating system), a location that cannot be changed.
As WinCross records your job file specification changes, it stores them in the JTxxxx.tmp file on a temporary basis (where each x is a random character). Should you experience a system malfunction (for example, a power outage) and not have recently saved the job file changes to disk, it is possible to retrieve them. To do so, simply rename JTxxxx.tmp to JTxxxx.job, then open it in WinCross and continue.
Profiles are saved on the local machine at C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\WinCross with a *.pro extension.
Upon normal termination of the application, WinCross automatically deletes its temporary files, but only those originating with that session. If orphaned (residual) *.tmp files not belonging to the current session exist in the WinCross subfolder, selecting Tools|Remove Temporary Files will delete all residual temporary files. This option will be grayed out if the subfolder is empty.
Note: Failure to periodically remove orphaned temporary files not only causes additional disk space to be utilized, but can potentially cause WinCross operational errors to occur under severe conditions. |
