Save Data As
Save
Data As lets you save a data file to a new or existing file name
and/or type. Alternatively, you can select Shift+Ctrl+S
to save a data file to a new or existing file name and/or type.
You
can choose from the following options for saving your data file:
To a Local Destination
- Saves your data file to a local or
network folder of your choice.
- You
can choose from the Recent folders
dropdown list to locate a desired folder.
- If you want to manually enter a filename,
click anywhere within the File
name: field and type the name. You will need to include
the full filepath if you want the data file to reside in a folder
other than that displayed.
ASCII fixed (*) data files
ASCII fixed
(*) data files can only be saved as the same type as the open data file
using File|Save|Save Data As.
Other data files
- Other data files can be saved as
ASCII fixed (*), SPSS (*.sav), comma-delimited (*.csv), tab-delimited (*.tab,
*.tsv), or MS Excel (*.xls, *.xlsx,
*.xlsm) using File|Save|Save
Data As.
- When the variable-type data file
is being saved as ASCII fixed (*) format, the Export
Width of each variable on the Variables tab
of the data grid is used for saving the data.
- When the data file is saved as a
new file name or file type, the new file is opened in WinCross.
- When saving a non-SPSS variable
data file with variable names to an SPSS (*.sav)
data file and the variable names are out of compliance with SPSS rules,
WinCross will rename the variables for you and issue a message letting
you know how many variables were renamed. For example, the variable
name Q2-R1 in
an Excel data file (*.xls
or *.xlsx) would
be renamed to Q2R1
when saving that Excel data file (*.xls
or *.xlsx) to
an SPSS (*.sav)
data file. If the variable name Q2R1
was already being used in the data file, WinCross would assign another
unique variable name (e.g. Q2R100002)
to prevent duplicate variable names.
Write
value labels in place of code values
- Data files can be saved using
the value labels in place of code values by enabling the Write value labels in place of code values
option.
- Variables are converted to
a Type of String and the Field Width is changed to
accommodate the widest value label in the data.
- Any outlier in the data that
is not represented by a code value with a corresponding value label,
will remain that value in the data file (for example, for the variable
GENDER, if code value 1 = Male and code value 2 = Female and there
is a code value 3 in the data, the data will contain "Male", "Female" and "3").
