The WinCross option Tools|Combine, sort and merge files allows you to manipulate fixed length, card image, comma delimited and tab delimited files. This provides a quick and accurate way to manipulate data, merge data and add sequence numbers to a data file based on the contents of a field.

There are 4 file types available on the main menu.
Fixed length files can be combined, sorted and merged with other files. A sequence number can be added to fixed length files. Each input record and each output record have a maximum of 64,000 characters.
Card image files can be combined, sorted and merged with other files. A sequence number can be added to card image files. Card image data assumes an 80 character record. The input maximum is 400 cards per respondent or 64,000 characters. The output maximum is also 400 cards per respondent or 64,000 characters.
Comma or tab delimited files can be combined, sorted and merged with other files. A sequence number can be added to comma or tab delimited files.
