Run|Factor Analysis: ASCII Data
Note: Run|Factor
Analysis cannot be selected
unless your job and data files are open. |
Add/Remove
- Add
or Remove a field to be used
in factor analysis.
Field
- Enter the record/column
location of the selected field.
Label
- Enter a Label
(optional) for the current field (up to 72 characters) to be shown
on the factor analysis report.
- Select Show
variable labels in report to display the labels that
you entered for each selected field on the factor analysis
report.
Show
previous
- Engage the Show
previous check box
to have the data from the previously-entered field or label remain
in Field
or Label
and available for editing.
Blank/out-of-range responses
- Select either Compute
with mean fill or Compute
without mean fill.
Range
- Enter the Minimum
value and Maximum value
range for each selected field.
Reverse scale
- Reverses the order of values in a
range. For example, the value 1 would display as a 5 if the value
range of 1-5 was entered and the Reverse
scale was selected.
Show variable label in report
- Displays the label entered for each
field on the factor analysis report.
Use
glossary transformations
- Applies glossary transformations
prior to the calculation of the factor analysis. Use
glossary transformations is the default.
- If you are adding length and defining
new fields in the glossary, the length and new fields are not written to the data file
from Factor Analysis.
Write factor scores to data file
- Saves the factor scores calculated
by the factor analysis and writes them to the end
of the specified output data file.
Write factor groups(s) to data file
- Saves the factor groups calculated
by the factor analysis and writes them to the end of the specified
output data file.
Create secondary factor groups
- WinCross uses the highest factor
score to determine which factor group is the best fit. On occasion,
the highest factor score and the second highest factor score can be
very similar. When the Create secondary
factor groups option is selected, WinCross determines if the
respondent should be assigned to a secondary factor group.
Minimum
Eigenvalue criterion
- Enter a value for Minimum Eigenvalue criterion
if desired. The default value for this field is 1.0000.
Maximum number of factor groups
- Enter
a value for the Maximum number
of factor groups to
be considered in this factor analysis. The default is 99.
Run
filter
- You can enter a Filter
Title (optional) and/or Filter
Logic to be applied to your factor analysis.
- Only those records that meet the
filter criteria will be written to the output data file (if specified).
- Select Write
all cases to file to write all records to the data file
but only assign factor scores and/or factor groups to those records
matching the filter criteria.
- The Run
Filter is active check box can be used to remove the Run Filter without removing the
Filter Title and Filter
Logic that was previously entered. This allows you to reuse
the Filter Title and Filter Logic if desired.
Report Properties
Select
Report Properties
to display the factor analysis Report
Properties dialog box. Following
is a list of items that can be included in the factor analysis output
data file:
- Means
and standard deviations (selected
default)
- Correlation
coefficients
- Eigenvalues
and cumulative proportion of total variance
(selected default)
- Factor
matrix
- Number
of factors rotated and number of iteration cycles
(selected default)
- Rotated
factor matrix
- Sorted
factor loadings
- Rotated
factor matrix –
summary
(selected default)
- Distribution
of factor groups (selected default)
- Component
score coefficient matrix
Run
When
you run or save your factor analysis, a new file, jobname.fac, will be created. This file
is linked to your WinCross job file and contains all of the factor analysis
specifications for that job.
When
Write factor scores to data file
or Write factor groups to data file
is selected, selecting Run will
display the Save Data As dialog
box where you will enter your file name, file type, number of records
per case and the number of cases you would like to write to the output
data file:
Drive/Directory
- Select the file path where you would
like to save your new data file with the factor analysis scores and
groups.
File(s)
- If you would like to save your file
to a filename that currently exists and is displayed in the File(s) list, highlight the filename
from the File(s) list.
Output file
- Enter a name for your output
data file or select an existing file from the File(s)
list.
- You can save to the
open data file.
- You will be prompted with a message
explaining that the original data file will be backed up with a *.bak# extension added (with # = to a number, for example,
example.dat.bak1 is the first
backup file created for the original data file of example.dat).
- The newly saved data file will automatically
reopen in WinCross.
- You have the option of continuing
by selecting Yes
or cancelling the save by selecting No.
Save file as type
- Select the file type for your output
data file.
- The output data file must be the
same type as the input data file.
Records per case
- You can enter the
number of records per case.
Cases to write
- Enter the number of cases that you
would like to write to the output data file.
When
Run
is selected on the Run Factor
Analysis dialog,
the Factor
Analysis report becomes
the active dialog. You can print this report by selecting File|Print|Print
Report or you
can save the report using File|Save|Save Report
or File|Save|Save
Report As. The
Factor
Analysis report can
be saved as a Plain Text Report
(*.rpt), Microsoft Word/Rich Text Format (*.rtf) report or as a Microsoft Excel 1997-2003 (*.xls) or Microsoft Excel
2007-2013 (*.xlsx)
report.
Save
- Saves the factor analysis specifications
as jobname.fac to the folder
where the open job file currently resides.
Load
- Use Load
to open a factor analysis specifications file (*.fac)
choosing a different file name from the folder where the open job
currently resides or a different folder/file path from where the open
job file currently resides.
Save As
- Allows you to save the factor analysis
specifications to a file name (*.fac)
and location of your choosing.
Cancel
- Use Cancel
to exit the Run Factor Analysis
dialog. You will be prompted to save any changes made to the Run Factor Analysis dialog.
Restore Defaults
- Resets all factor analysis settings
to the WinCross defaults.
